It was great to meet several subscribers to CAC Market Values at the Denver ANA convention last month – our ranks are growing. Thank you for stopping by our table! We were continuously busy during the whole week, from start to finish.
While doing business at the show, I was often reminded by firsthand experience that a lot of people who regularly buy and sell coins don’t know how to price CAC coins. When it was to their advantage while trying to buy, several dealers, who should know better, quoted sales prices for the last auction sale of a specific coin, even though other recent sales of like-kind coins brought prices that were much higher. Some of them also quoted auction prices for non-CAC coins, even while trying to buy CAC-approved examples. Take heed and use CAC Market Values to your advantage when you’re negotiating.
Also, realize that gold-stickered CAC coins generally sell for very high premiums (sometimes by multiples) over prices for like-kind green-stickered CAC coins. The same trend applies to Plus-grade CAC-stickered coins in the top grades (although their premiums are not as high as for gold-stickered coins). And there are numerous buyers who will step up and pay seemingly exorbitant prices for beautifully toned high-grade coins, especially if they’re CAC-approved. You may have to wing it when buying and selling such premium coins, but realize that they often have great potential for generating significant profits.
